It was advertised as a black tie affair, but I saw it in listings only so I didn't get that memo and dressed in a shlubby Acid Mothers Temple tie dye tee shirt while everyone sweltered in jackets at the overstuffed, sold out cocktail bar with a band room in the back and a stage for readings between sets set up in front. As the place filled out fortunately there were other people that also didn't get the memo and wore the expected t-shirts you would expect at a hot rock show. This was a great night. Grace Bergere kicked off with a short acoustic set since she had only songs she wrote and nothing to read. Acoustic is tough in a room like this because everyone talks over it and that goes double because they just arrived. And it goes triple because here new digital release on Casa Gogol, A Little Blood, which I've been listening to as I was putting this together sounds amazing and fully realized. Avishag Cohen Rodrigues kicked off the main room and I've only seen her in her lesbian informed chaotic band cumgirl8. Here she does more of an ambient/shoegaze/electronica performance. Marc C from Live Skull read after she played and did some politically enhanced poetry about the second Trump era. Genre Is Death played their set. They are coming off recording with Martin Bisi and it is interesting how they seem to have established themselves as the "it" band of the moment. Katherine McGaffigan read oher New Hampshire years drinking Ensure before writer Joseph Keckler did his operatic multimedia with occasional German language performance. Gogol Bordello's Eugene Hutz then read a few bits of his forthcoming book that publishing houses have been on him to write over two decades. At midnight all bodies crammed into the back room for AGN5. I hung in the back of the room where the band could barely be seen but the drums and band in general sounded great. Something about the Bose Sound system that was set up in there sounded great for that room.
