There was a hint of 90's nostalgia in the march of the grays Monday night at Elsewhere.  Silkworm started in the later 80's but really hit their stride around 1998 with Firewater and put records out until their drummer Michael Dahlquist was killed in a car accident in 2005.  They took time off,  but reformed in 2024 to tribute Steve Albini.  There isn't any new releases yet, just archival stuff, but you know how that goes.  Interestingly, Joel R.L. Phelps, who left in 1994 before the great run for an excellent solo career has rejoined.  Somehow I never saw Silkworm before but I did see The Bottomless Pit which had Tim Midyett, Andy Cohen and Joel RL Phelps as does this current version of Silkworm with Jeff Pinall of Songs: Ohia fame drumming.

Boston's Come go way back.  They were a Boston supergroup of established veterans when I saw their first Middle East gig in 1990 and while their releases stopped in that decade, they gig in NYC from time to time in recent years even though Thalia Zadek has her solo band and Chris Brokaw is in 500 things to check out forever, lately Lupo Citta.  

There is a bit of time standing still when you see this stuff.  There are certainly older people in the musical hemisphere still doing their thing and the people have remained active even as they splintered or played with each other in different configurations.  You can't really call it nostalgia so much as eternal even if now Tim has to get up in the middle of the night to piss.
