Night two of NYC is in the books and the band has left this morning to Cleveland before hitting Detroit, Chicago and points beyond to the West Coast. We got a bit more of the standard two and a half hour set and there was no opener or second show to, as Nick put it "get in the way." This was the "show for fans" added after the Brooklyn one was postponed from October and sold out in advance.
So essentially, we got "Olde Worlde" from Any Gas Faster, "Coming Round" from London Stone, the title track from New River Head and the show wrapped with Inner Marshland's "I've Got Eyes In The Back Of My Head." Also, with Mary Lou Lord still in town, she joined for harmonies on "Stars Burn Out" and "He'd Be A Diamond" which were both in her repertoire over the years.
I was standing on Paul Simmons side the whole show and was hearing his shredding cranked side of the band which I didn't notice as much from the other side of the room. While both Nick and Paul do duel soloing, it almost seems like the bandleader lays back into the song and lets the "boy" do the hard work now. Nick Saloman is gonna be 72 next week after all!
As he put it the other night on his recent rise in popularity, "there's no one left."
