I had one of those days I went to run East Village errands and procrastinated going home by doing a bar crawl up Avenue A to the L train. First up from storage was Lucky's. Modern rock producer Jake Sinclair was setting up. He is responsible for stuff like Panic At The Disco and Fall Out Boys. Stuff I have spent 20 years totally ignoring. He was wearing a Mike Viola shirt which is an old Boston rock name of somebody else I ignored in the 80's, but was curious about. I went to ask about it given my 80's MA roots but didn't get much intel from Jake except that Mike was his spirit animal. Anyway I watched him do 4 or so songs sound checking, thought he was decent enough but I was starting to feel like getting out of Lucky's and his set wasn't going to start for another hour so I decided I was going to go home.
Except once I was outside walking a few block I decided for one last round at Mona's. I ran into the doorman at Otto's there before he was set to go there. Since Otto's was also on the way to the train and Jukebox Jodi was working I thought I'd drop in there before finally going home. I had played on a bill with Johnny Mellor's Bastardos at Lucky 13 about 10 years ago, so I was hoping to catch them but they had already played. Lifestyle Change, a duo were on so I hung out while they played. Skitzopolis wrapped the night with some entertaining shrieking vocals. The drummer got into a fight with the singer and almost quit midset but was convinced to finish the show. Then they had a sax player join at the end of the set. Enough going on to make me want to stay the whole set. Since I didn't know these bands names while they were playing I thought maybe there was more, but that was it the night was done by 10 so I got on the train and woke up on the couch at 3AM.
