Although Glenn Branca has passed 8 years on, his work remains to be performed like any composer of note over time. It is a bit odd to think of it in terms of avant classical canon and not an active performer but we are still living in times where his collaborators are there to do events like this in Lincoln Center. I think the last time I saw 100 guitars was when Branca was still alive but that is neither here or there. The age of the 100 guitarist run the gamut from young to aged and their skill from technician to novice. I thought my friend Mark Maloof was going to be in on this but he was out of the country and had planned to be before he was invited to return. I did get to see my old roommate Greg McMullen who was part of Branca's core band then. Familiar NYC band names like Michael Jung and Tim Dahl were on stage as were local celebs like Kyp Malone. It was less a matter of who was on the stage as opposed to the massive coordinated symphonic drone wall, but it was nice to see that this community still has significant numbers to fill up David Geffen Hall. The after party was the place to be downstairs and once that closed up around midnight a bunch of people went down to the new Siberia in the 59th St subway.
