David Gedge brought this year's edition of the Wedding Present into the US with his tour hitting the soon to be closed Music Hall of Williamsburg. A friend of mine had a +1 handy, so I took the opportunity to see them for the first time since the Watusi tour at Tramps back in the mid 90's. I thought it had been even longer since I saw Mark Robinson in something but he did play a couple songs at Mark Erdody's benefit a few years back which I forgot about.
Seamonster was the anniversary album (35th) that was played start to finish. The latest release is an EP called Maxi that came out last year, so the decks were cleared competition-wise with RCA/Sony doing a vinyl double album reissue this year at least in Europe. Come to think of it, I bought Seamonster as a European import CD for $20 when it came out. Despite the Steve Albini recording, it didn't come out here until 1992 on BMG's college rock imprint First Warning that notibly also issued the 3D's. So anyway after some newer material we got Seamonsters start to finish before the tracks that kicked off the Albini relationship when he remixed a few from Bizarro for an EP. The covered the early Pavement song "Box Elder MO" and closed with the single "Brassneck."
Mark Robinson played solo doing a 51 song medley spanning his bands Unrest and +/-. You got hit verses and choruses in 30 or 45 max samples. Mark on 45 keeps on turning in your mind. Remember "Cherry Cherry" or "Yes, She Is My Skinhead Girl?"
