Dylan from Tee Pee band Sacri Monti was in town from San Diego with his Peter Green cover band Blues For Greeny, so I met up with Kenny at his local Tradesman and when subwayed it L to the 6 to 33rd St. to go to the "new" Cutting Room which opened in 2013 after the previous room went down in 2009. Cutting Room always had low key industry showcase band and revival tours. This particular Saturday night was dedicated to cover bands. We got there when Fleetwood Macked were doing their final run of hits to a packed room.
Bands like Howlin' Rain and Sacri Monti don't usually play the Cutting Room and this club was a bit different from the places Blues For Greeny have been on tour. I predicted correctly "Oh Well" would be the opener to keep folk around, perhaps top loaded by "Black Magic Woman" which it was. It did not retain most of the crowd there for cover band hits they were familiar with.
In this case Blues For Greeny is less of a cover band and more of a tribute to the British guitar legend. It was strictly for guitar heads and the people who loved them and the tables that were packed out earlier. This made the show seem like more of a serious real band instead of some of the cover bands that fly around. It gives one hope that Daniel Cervantes The Band cover band, Chest Fever, would probably be good as well.
You can't see the real Peter Green, so this will do. The band did a great job doing an overview.
