The touring tribute band to The Saints features surviving member guitarist Ed Kuepper and drummer Ivor Hay with ringers like Mark Arm for vocals and Mick Harvey for second guitar as well as bass player Peter Oxley who played with Kuepper in the splinter band The Aints. Not that complicated, this is a tribute band of the peak period of The Saints before Chris Bailey took it over. I actually booked a brief tour for a later version of that one in 2007 and it was a totally different band with totally different members. Chris Bailey is missed, but he had a different approach before he passed. He was still doing some of this material up to the end of his life.
Still, it was great to hear the hits in this format from "(I'm) Stranded" to "(I'm) Misunderstood." "Know Your Product" to "No, Your Product." Got No Time! Messin With The Kid! And so on. I'm looking forward to Ed Kuepper's solo show Monday night, as that is a rare event to have him in NYC.
Aussie openers chimers were a strummy guitar and drum duo that were worthwhile to see. Like Well Well Well era Woodentops stripped down sort of strummy except with electric guitar or Wedding Present is what comes to mind stylistically.
