Mdou Moctar's spin off band with their rhythm section of American (From DC) Michael Coulton and Niger based drummer Souleymane Ibrahim adds Ahmoudou Madasane on guitar/vocal in the Tuareg style. Fast paced, distorted psychedelic guitar that has a distinct feel. People tend to handclap and jump while the band plays. Takaat played 45 minutes plus an encore and were uniformly excellent. The couple times I've see Mdou Moctar it is the same, but that band is clearly lead by Mahamadou Souleymane (aka Mdou Moctar). who is that bands focal point. Takaat shows the rest of the band are a big part of the sound.
I got there taking a pit stop coming home from my own band practice, when Masami Tomihisa just went on. She was alternating from ambient beats on a laptop to heavily reverbed keyboard. She got silence from the audience for the most part and her short set was well received.
