Long established NWOBHM legend Iron Maiden have been perpetually touring of late.  Their last album was Senjutsu back in 2021 and this show had 5 songs from that as well as 5 from their oft-ignored Somewhere In Time album from 1986.  There was very little played from the first 4 save of course the theme song "Iron Maiden" and "The Prisoner" from The Number of the Beast.  That's right, you heard me.  No Number Of The Beast.  No Run To The Hills.  Not even a Running Free.

You did get "The Trooper" from Piece of Mind but overall the hits skewed toward handwavers like "Wasted Years" and "Fear of The Dear" more than the headbangers made famous by the recently deceased original vocalist Paul Di'Anno.  Still, with the floor General Admission this was the closest I've even got to them making it about 7 rows of bodies out.  My first time was the Powerslave tour in Worcester back in January '85 and that was in the middle of the floor.  Ever since my vantage of Maiden was in a distant seat somewhere except for the return of Bruce Dickinson at Hammerstein Ballroom in 2004.

When I came in, Mongolia metal throat singers The Hu were already on, but I caught at least half the set.  "This sounds like tuvalu throat singing" I thought to myself.  Sure enough it was.  I can't say I remember much else of the material, but it was done with enthusiasm and emphasized the international aspect of what Iron Maiden evolved into.  They are back in Worcester next Wednesday then are in Newark on Saturday, so there is still time to catch them on this run.
