Steve Wynn did a solo acoustic show to promote his new book I Wouldn't Say It If It Wasn't True about his life story through the first run of his most known band The Dream Syndicate from 1979-1988. I was running a little late and Nico impersonator Tammy Faye Starlight was closing out her set with a Nico-style version of Bowie's "Heroes" as I sat down. Tammy would later come out to "interview" Steve as Nico for several questions. These served to get Steve to tell some stories. "Was Lou Reed an asshole?" prompted Steve to tell a story of being taken backstage at a Town Hall Lou show supposedly at Lou's behest by a shared guitarist only for Lou to wave off a reluctant Steve Wynn. "Rubber Soul or Revolver?" Neither! The White Album, to a demanding "Nico."
The show rolls out as you might expect, from Steve's first song written at age 9 through Dream Syndicate highlights opening for U2, recording The Days of Wine and Roses and disillusionment setting in while working with Sandy Pearlman for their big A&M production Medicine Show.
