Nocturnal Emissions/Lussuria/Bride/Beton Tåge and Mouths Agape @ TV Eye, Ridgewood, Queens, NY 10/27/24

The first industrial album I ever heard was Nocturnal Emissions' Drowning In A Sea Of Bliss. It was the 6th release from Nigel Ayers long running project (the other founding member, Caroline K passed in 2008 at 50 of leukemia) that has long cracked the 40 year mark. It blew me away. Nigel's performance was the first NYC appearance in 30 years and my first time witnessing him in the flesh. I was a bit surprised that he gave a performance that seemed more rooted in hip hop and dub with bright visuals as mundane as the worms in his backyard.

This added a bit of humanity. Normally with solo industrial noisemakers, you have someone dressed in black possibly with a cloak and definitely some ominous looking black and white imagery behind them. Certainly, the black and white Nocturnal Emissions t-shirt embodied that with a wide-eyed black-eyed lady with a nosebleed. I don't know if this is found fetish snuff imagery or merely a model or friend, but it seems incongruous to what Nigel is in 2024. Nigel is an old man with an international audience and a back catalog of over 100 releases. If someone is under the floorboard in his home, she long forgotten. He loves attention and putting on a show and saves the dour shit for the younger generation.

Lussuria fit that bill. A man, his electronics and his black and white footage behind him. Bride came in from Berlin for a debut NYC appearance to put a feminine stamp on a scene mostly govern by incels. Opening collaboration Benton Tage and Mouths Agape joined forces for a short set of brief monotony. I did manage to get the split second the guy on the right rose above his electronics in ecstatic punctuation.
