Long running hard rock power metal  entity Cirith Ungol have decided to call it a day. Although their first release was Blood and Fire in 1981 the drummer Robert Garvin and the guitarist Greg Lindstrom  had a decade in.  Vocalist Tim Baker joined in 1976.  The band ended it's initial run in 1991 and reformed in 2015.  This rejiggered version has been active releasing records and touring the past decade, but apparently have decided to call it a day after this tour.  We shall see.

This was supposed to be the Brooklyn metal venue St. Vitus's calling card marquee shows--2 sold out nights book almost a year in advance.  Nobody could have predicted the venue that had lasted over a decade would be brought down by a single neighbor, but they were able to move and promote their shows throughout NYC.  In this instance the two sold out shows were combined and moved to a week later into The Meadows.

Since that reformation roughly a decade ago, I've seen Cirith Ungol a couple times, which is the two gigs up on setlist at Music Hall of Williamsburg in 2017 and Le Poisson Rouge last year.  They always delivered the hits "Frost & Fire," "Blood & Iron," "Black Machine," "Atom Smasher."  They are always going to deliver power metal with shrill vocals.

Sanhedrin have been around a decade now and are also on the current Metal Blade roster with Cirith Ungol.  It was noted they have shared bills over the recent years and this run of dates they were support.  This was the homecoming since they are from Brooklyn.  All these bands had a significant prior history.  Leader Erica Stolz was in the Tee Pee band Lost Goat as well as Hammers of Misfortune, Guitarist Jeremy Sosville was in Black Anvil and the drummer Nathan Honor was in the excellent Vermefug so they all have a pedigree much longer than 10 years.  More like 25+.  Still babes in the woods when compared to Cirith Ungol!
