Earlier in the week I got a text from Jonny Couch that his new band Greaser Phase was playing at Berlin, so I took the opportunity to come out, catch up and see the night he put together. He set it up with a couple bands he's played with in his recently adopted hometown of Jersey City.
Ironbound was the first band up. Considering there is very little info about this band, they had a very full room. Apparently a couple of them have some skater ties, but he sound was quality country. The singer was wearing a Gary Stewart hat and the guitarist was quality cosmic rock.
Best Dressed Ghost made me flash back to 5th grade (1981!) where a classmate brought in the B-52's Wild Planet cassette with their cover of "Private Idaho" closing out the side. Best Dressed Ghost did spunky punky original two guitar rock.
Jonny's new project Greaser Phase closed out the night. Mostly, it seemed like a Jonny Couch gig with all new material since he had another drummer and played the frontman role just like he does in his solo band even doing his "Animal Instinct" solo debut title track from way way back in 2016. Jonny had his parents in town visiting from Cleveland and his mom was bopping with his wife among the crowd.

So Berlin cut Jonny a check for the nights pay, then we caught up down the street at The Library bar, so it was a good night out.
