I had a request from my Israeli buddy Danny to get a Mizmor shirt with the Hebrew logo so with an open night I walked over to my local, TV Eye. I spoke briefly with the bassist and they had retired their old logo for a more standard black metal looking shirt.
Fortunately, the door person gave me a couple drink tickets so the twenty dollars for the gig wasn't as impactful for a gamble. Since both bands were on tour from the West Coast, it was good to see something new. Amarok did a doom sludge thing without solos. When you see a band like this you realize why Matt Pike is special, but I enjoyed Amarok all the same. They could lock in on parts.
Mizmor were a strain of America Black Metal. Between sets I shazamed tracks by Mayhem, Bathory and Darkthrone, so that tells you my expertise beyond Burzum (even though I had at least bought a couple Mayhem releases in the '90's). I had no idea who does what and I can't judge on a depth I'm sure some people can. Mizmor was not at the level of those bands, but you can't say any genre band can rise above their forefathers particularly when it comes to Black Metal.
Still was a good Tuesday night out.
