Welcome to the very first post of NYC SHOW OBSESSIVE. I had a hack on my Meta pages which affects both my Facebook and Instagram personal pages, so I figured I'd get this blog up and going to incorporate photos and clips I take from shows and perhaps a little reflective commentary. I also decided to break out Facebook pages for my record writeups (The Reverse Collector) and my show posts (NYC Show Obsessive). That way my personal page will be bland, boring and hopefully less open to getting usurped by thieves.
Live shows are different than records to review because with records it's easy for me to leave out stuff I helped put out or promote. With live shows, you tend to know people, get on the list, etc making it much more difficult to provide a balanced point of view. There might be reasons beyond the actual performer why you don't want to fully reveal your true opinions if you are going to see someone or attend something with someone or play a gig with someone or have them play a gig or whatever. Fortunately with The Atomic Bitchwax and Mirror Queen there is no such quandary and they are both enjoyable to see repeatedly, as I regularly do.
In this case, I worked with Kenny from Mirror Queen and Tee Pee when we were doing Rubric together with Aytobach Kreisor, the pre-Mirror Queen band of guitarist Kenny and drummer Jeremy and was at Tee Pee in between their two runs there, so I have been seeing these bands live year after year for many many years with different members and friends coming in and out. Oddly enough, I was introduced to Bitchwax before Rubric's Tee Pee merge by a girl from South Jersey around the time of their second album and met up with her for a show at CBGB's after getting the first two CD's mail order around 2000. In that sense, it is good to start this blog with this show while I sort out formatting kinks of how I want to present the blog. Atomic Bitchwax was wrapping a tour and Mirror Queen was joining for a couple dates after in New Hampshire and Providence.
So I'm not gonna get into a review so much except to say Bitchwax were in "end of tour" shape where everything was even faster and tighter and Mirror Queen were their twin guitar attack selves. I missed who I think but am not certain were Certain Death because it was hot as fuck that night and I went straight to the bar. They sounded ok from the bar, but I just couldn't extract myself but realized the back room was cooler without the pizza oven to add to the 90+ degree day.
