Reverend Horton Heat is one of those bands I check in on every ten years or so.  I won tickets for tonight, so no time like the present.  I think I won last time too come to think of it.  Still good, still do "Psychobilly Freakout," still got Jimbo on bass although he is steel gray now.  The kind Reverend notes he looks like William Shatner.  As in Will Shatner today.  He ain't wrong.  Rock and roll is a cruel business.

Still the good Reverend has been out on the road long enough to make friends with Lemmy to invite him to fill in for Hank 3 and then outlast him to pay tribute with "Ace Of Spades."  He'll even tell you the tale.  He does a lot of talkin' and some of it is even cool to hear.  The latest album long out of Sub Pop and Interscope is an album of covers that inspired the band.  This might include Johnny Carroll whose "Crazy Crazy Lovin'" he deems one of the best rockabilly songs of all time.

The kind Reverend took 2 fellow Texas bands on the road this time out.  I got there while Austin's Black Joe Lewis was playing and missed Piñata Protest, a Tex-Mex band from San Antonio.  Both of those bands have been around for about 20 years, yet they are still "new bands" in comparison with Reverend Horton Heat who can double that time easy.  Hell, I remember when Jimbo's hair was jet black!  It wasn't that long ago.
