Boston's long running hardcore band The F.U.'s came down to NYC.  Their original bass player Wayne Maestri passed last week.  He was in the band during the peak early 80's years as well as when they became the Straw Dogs later in the 80's.  John Sox was singing the hits of yore like "Young Fast Iranians," "Daisy Chain" and of course "Kill For Christ."  Good to see them, I found out they were playing like a day before the show at a place within walking distance for me that somehow I hadn't been to yet.  Bar Freda is a cool basement room beneath a bar on Seneca in Ridgewood.  Funny, I've probably seen FU's more in NYC over the past decade than I did in Boston in their heyday.  I guess they were the Straw Dogs by the time I was there and I think they were broken up for a time.  However I did know their records at radio in the 80's so certain things were classic hits to me as ingrained as any hardcore record.

The bands that opened were local and closer in age to the FU's.  This didn't have the stamp of a jammed out NYHC promoted show.  It was low key and casual in a small room with 50 or so people.   Bowhead did an emoish thing that weren't overly emo if that makes sense so I thought they were pretty good.  The singer seemed like he meant it, which always helps.  DIYing Breed seems a little older complete with Peter and the Test Tube Babies and Hüsker Dü shirts.  I guess they have put in close to ten years playing so cheers to them.  Boiling Point were another newer band from North Jersey, what town I don't know but they have a theme song about the 973 area code so I guess somewhere around there.
